Hi everybody. Welcome to the blog where I talk about the past.
You know, I always had a bunch of lighting ideas under my belt. One was always a constant. When all else failed I always used the ring flash. The ring flash was initially used in medical photography. It’s basically a ring of light around the front of your lens. It always makes everyone look great. The ring flash was used a lot in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
I remember one time I flew to St. Barts to photograph a famous/actress woman. She finally got her hair and makeup done which gave me 2 hours to shoot a story on her. It was a nightmare. She basically said, “You’ve got me for two hours. That’s it.” Now, this is where a good stylist/wardrobe comes into play. We had to redo all the clothes and come up with a story in 15 minutes. Thank God the stylist had a lot of clothes. The model had a great body, so we shot all black swimwear at night, using the ring flash. It looked cool. She was in the waves at night getting all the hair and makeup wet. I was constantly wondering, if I get wet am I gonna die from electrocution. Anyway, the shots came out great. Man, did we work fast.
That’s all for this week. I miss you guys. Talk to you next week. Love, B. Nice
